What other readers are saying about Deviations.

"Deviations is a thrilling story about a young girl who fights to reconcile the human race to a disease-ridden world. It’s a story that captures the uneasiness and complexity of the human spirit. Read and see as Henly reveals the secrets to the “good vs. bad” dynamic that battles within us all."

“A romance, a thriller, and a story of ultimate betrayal, Deviations captures all the elements of an engaging and electrifying tale. Johnson’s finely tuned craftsmanship will keep you guessing until the very end.”

"The cover of the book threw me off a little bit. So glad I overlooked it and read the book! I fell in love with the characters and was fighting for their survival right along with them. Henly is a strong female that pushes to save her family and hopefully the rest of the world. I also appreciate that it is not like all the other end of the world books out there. It's nice to read something fresh and new. I can't wait for the next book!"

"It was so good I felt like it was all of my favourite books put into one!"

"I loved Deviations. The story jumps quickly into the action and plot, but you still get to know the main character, Henly, and grow attached to her. Henly is very relatable and likeable, and you root for her the whole way. There is a lot of great action in the story and I loved the detail of Henly and her friends surviving and fighting in this unique post-apocalyptic world, as well as the dynamic of her family life. I also couldn’t get enough of the little bit of romance that ensues - very tastefully done but definitely leaves you on the edge of your seat. I honestly cannot wait for a second book!"

"Henley Sawyer wakes to learn that a virus has been injected into the human population and has become a fast spreading epidemic. As she tries to make sense of all of this she makes a horrid discovery that her parents may not have been who they said they were. Henley, assisted by comrades Renner and Dex, sets out on a journey to find her family, hoping that they will lead her to the antidote. Along the way she must face the infected Deviations, her growing feelings for Renner, and the harsh reality of who her parents really are. While I may never faced a Deviation, the struggles that Henley faces on her journey with life, love, and family, all hit close to home and make her very relatable. As I read the book, I felt as though I were there struggling with her. I didn't want to put the book down until we had found the antivirus. This book is exciting and entertaining. It drew me in and allowed me to get lost in Henley's world. I didn't want to put it down. It is definitely a great read!"

"The novel Deviations by Crystal C. Johnson is an unpredictable journey that brings you through very relatable experiences. Through the excitement and comedy found throughout, it is impossible to put down. Through the characters Crystal has been able to relate to her readers with the realistic feelings and actions that they portray. Throughout the entire novel there are countless ingenious surprises that you never see coming. Deviations is the amazing combination of the novels Divergent by Veronica Roth, Maze Runner by James Dashner, Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, and Matched by Allie Condie."

"Deviations is a true thriller. It starts off at a fast pace and keeps you running until the final sentence. The young leading characters are completely engaging and identifiable. The protagonist is relatable and endearing as she struggles to fight her way through the new reality she must face in a world over run by Deviations.
Henly must also face a barrage of emotions as she struggles to find her family while fighting to stay alive. Emotions are raw and intense throughout. As a leading lady Henly is fierce and loyal while retaining the awkwardness and frailty which keeps her character relatable and human in her world of escalating horror.Deviations is a nightmare-ish tale of deception and betrayal which unfolds in heart pounding detail. Emotions of love, romance, family bonds and human intimacy, play out against terror and loss. Right as you reach the last few pages and hope to be able to take a breath, the final paragraphs sweep you up and leave you breathless all over again!
Reading Deviations was a real thrill. It's an incredible story that takes you into the dark world of the lead characters and keeps you right in the action, cheering them on in their struggles and their relationships, page after page. I loved it!"

"I love the story line, the characters, the love story and the twist. I stayed up reading and couldn't put it down."

"I loved it. I started it this morning and literally could not tear my face away from the computer screen. With all the different post-apocalyptic books coming out about government takeovers and such, I felt like this one was a break from the same old same old. The characters felt very real and  I could really connect with them on a completely human level. It was paced really well and I never felt like anything was being rushed. The ending left me so mad that I called my mom and ranted for 15 minutes and she had no idea what I was talking about. It was honestly so amazing and I can’t wait for it to be out (and perhaps a sequel) so I can tell everyone about it."
